The Wonderworks

Santa's Workshop, hall by hall

Eleven halls under one long roof, built into the hillside above the village. This is where toys are drawn, cut, painted and wrapped — and where every document in your child's package is printed and sealed before it travels.

The Drafting Room

Open all year · busiest in March

Every toy starts here as a pencil line on brown paper. Nothing is built until the drawing survives three winters of argument.

Currently on the board: a rocking horse with a hinged mane, and a telescope small enough for a six-year-old to carry outdoors alone.

Head designer: Juniper Frost

The Wood Hall

5am – 7pm, snow or shine

The oldest room in the Wonderworks and the warmest. Lathes, shavings, and the smell of pine that clings to every elf who works a shift here.

House rule: no toy leaves the hall until it has been dropped on the stone floor once, on purpose, by the elf who made it.

Bench master: Alder Pine

The Paint & Lacquer Line

Two shifts, never on Sundays

Twenty-one reds are kept in labelled jars and only one of them is allowed on a sleigh. The others are for wagons, drums and the noses of wooden dogs.

Drying racks run the length of the hall. Touching one is the fastest way to lose your gold star for the week.

Colour keeper: Marzipan Holly

The Wrapping Hall

December, around the clock

Ribbon by the mile, paper by the acre. This is where notes to children get slipped into packages when nobody senior is looking.

Tinsel works the third bench and denies everything. The notes in your package say otherwise.

Third bench: Tinsel

The Print Room

Runs the moment an order arrives

Where the documents in your package are set, stamped and sealed. Certificates, permits, manifests and letters all pass through this room before they reach you.

Everything is prepared at high resolution in US Letter and A4, plus one Complete Pack file so a parent can print the whole thing in a single go.

Press keeper: Quill Birchwood

The Loading Yard

Christmas Eve, from dusk

The narrow-gauge train runs from the halls to the sleigh dock. Nine carriages, no brakes worth mentioning, and a driver who has never once been late.

Once the last carriage is unloaded, the yard lamps go out and the Pole is quiet until Boxing Day.

Yard chief: Bramble Nutmeg
